Irek Głyk quintet feat. Kinga Głyk was a concert where the biggest star was undeniably Kinga – the bass player.
The evening opened without Kinga impatiently awaited by the audience. She joined her father Irek Głyk and the rest after two pieces in a striking father-and-daughter pairing whose musical dialogue carried warmth and vitality. The fusion of vibraphone (played by Irek Głyk) and Kinga’s agile, melodic bass lines created a soundscape that expertly balanced groove and finesse.
Kinga’s individual presence stood out: she anchored the rhythm section with confident technique, yet effortlessly stepped into expressive solos that drew audience attention. Her tone was clear and resonant, the phrasing thoughtful, and the energy consistent throughout. The supporting band — including percussionist Peter Somos, guitarist Jakub Mizeracki and sax/clarinet player Joaquin Sosa — offered tight interplay, and the group as a whole delivered both intricate jazz moments and accessible groove-laden passages.
The venue’s atmosphere added to the impact: the historic palace setting and proximity to the musicians made the interplay between musicians and audience feel immediate. The programming also showed smart contrast — while the performance leaned into jazz improvisation, it remained engaging enough for those less accustomed to instrumental sets.
The band:
- Ireneusz Głyk – vibraphone
- Kinga Głyk – Bass guitar
- Peter Somos – drums
- Jakub Mizeracki – guitar
- Joaquin Sosa – clarinet, saxophone
