John Porter

English-born musician, composer and songwriter, living in Poland since 1976. Originally from Lichfield, after studying political science in Sussex and spending time in Berlin and Australia, Porter moved to Poland. In 1977, together with Kora and Marek Jackowski, he created a trio called „Maanam – Electric Shower”, which was later renamed as Maanam. After about two years, John left the band and founded his own band called „Porter Band”. In 1979 the first album „Helicopters” was released. Porter Band is one of the most important bands in the history of Polish rock music. In the 1980s he collaborated with Maciej Zembaty arranging and performing songs by Leonard Cohen, whose lyrics were translated by Zembaty. 

John Porter is known for his own solo projects and collaborations with many musicians, including perhaps the most with Anita Lipnicka.
